8 / 13 · Stress & the Liver
The Liver Is Central to Cholesterol Regulation
- Cholesterol synthesis
- Lipoprotein production
- Lipid transportation
- Bile production
- Triglyceride metabolism
- Processing and recycling cholesterol
Physical and emotional stress can influence hormonal signaling, sleep, behavior and metabolism. Cholesterol is a precursor to steroid hormones including cortisol, DHEA, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone.
Hormonal demand and circulating cholesterol are regulated through multiple pathways and do not always rise together. Blood cholesterol is not a direct measurement of stress or hormone demand. Clearance, inherited traits, diet and medical conditions also matter.
Don't just attack the raw material.
Ask why demand increased.
